Making dog treats for the Pet Pantry

Our kiddos will make dog treats and package them for Ellie’s Pet Pantry at the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh.

Ellie's Pet Pantry is for members of our local community with food for hungry pets and pet supplies, assisting families that have fallen on hard times and are struggling to keep their families intact. The program’s namesake is Ellie, a courageous Black Lab mix, who was surrendered at a shelter in West Virginia because she suffered from a seizure disorder.

*This is not a peanut-free event and the dog treats will be made with peanut butter

This year, families signed up for 1-hour shifts.  See below for the shift and description of tasks that your family will engage in!

  • Shift 1, Setup: 9-10am [setting up chairs and tables, making signs for food, moving food donations]

  • Shift 2, Sorting & Packing: 10-11am [sorting food donations, packing boxes]

We will have Thanksgiving placemats and crayons available for children to decorate and place in the Thanksgiving boxes during all shifts.  Families really enjoy getting a personalized placemat from our VolunTOTS!

For families who signed up for Shifts 2 & 3 - we will have scissors and packing tape for boxes available to share with the group and you're welcome to bring your own.  Boxes will be unassembled and need to be taped up, filled with donations and placemats, and taped closed.

Do you still need more donations?

Yes!  We still need donations to meet our goal of ~3,000 items to pack for 250 families!  If you'd like to donate additional items, please use and share our Amazon Wishlist.  The Amazon Wishlist is regularly monitored and kept up-to-date with donations we still need for the event.

FAQs

1. Is there an age limit?  This event is all ages; we recommend walking toddlers through teens so that they can actively participate in sorting food, packing boxes, and coloring placemats for families.

2. Do I need to attend only during the time I signed up for? Yes; Shifts 1-3 are currently full and we still have space during Shift 4.  Please attend only during the shifts you signed up for to ensure we have adequate space and supplies.

3.  Is this a peanut [and other] allergy free event?  No; many of the food donation items either contain nuts and other food allergens or are packaged in a facility with nuts and other food allergens present.

4. Where do I park at Discovery Church? Please park on the side parking lot, around the left side of the building and adjacent to the mini-golf course.  There is ample parking in the lot. You'll enter through the main door and proceed to the auditorium/main worship area. There is another event happening at Discovery that day in their Community Room.

Bridge To Home

VolunTOTS is proud to present our 2022 holiday project: Bridge to Home

VolunTOTS aims to support families involved in all aspects of the foster care system: children, first families, and foster parents. We recognize that by providing support to everyone in the foster care triad, we can help strengthen families and achieve the ultimate goal of foster care: reunification with birth families.

To achieve this, we are renovating visitation rooms at Pressley Ridge Auberle and Adoption Connection, PA! We will be painting, putting together furniture, assembling toys and more on January 21, and we hope you can join us! We even have Amazon wishlists for each of the three agencies that will get sent directly to their offices if you would like to contribute that way.

For more info or to sign up to volunteer, comment or email cami@voluntots.org 🖤💛
